1. Introduction
Paradise Footy ("we", "us", "our") operates the Paradise Footy mobile application and website at aflparadise.app. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information.
2. Information We Collect
Account Information
- Email address
- Password, if you set one. We keep only a hashed copy of it.
- Your name, if you use Sign in with Apple and share your name
- Username and display name
- Bio and favourite AFL team
- Social media usernames that you add to your profile (optional)
- Fan profile answers from sign-up (optional): your club, your guernsey number, the year you started to barrack, and the type of fan you are
Location
The app asks for your precise location only when you tap Check In at a game. We compare your location with the location of the stadium. This confirms that you are at the game.
- We keep your coordinates and your distance from the stadium with each check-in.
- We do not track your location in the background.
- Other users do not see your coordinates. They can see that you checked in at a game, and the badges that you earn.
Messages and Posts
- Direct messages that you send to other users
- Game chat messages, comments, group posts and replies
- Lineups, polls, albums and other content that you make in the app
Other users can see what you post in public areas of the app. Only the people in a conversation see its direct messages. Direct messages are not end-to-end encrypted. Our automated safety check reads them, and our moderators can read a message that a user reports.
Photos
- Profile picture and cover photo (optional)
- Images that you add to direct messages, game chat, group posts and albums
The app gets a photo only when you choose it or take it with the camera. The app does not read the other photos on your device.
We keep each photo at a long, random web address. Anyone who has that address can open the photo. This is also true for photos in direct messages.
Usage Data
- Favourite teams and players
- Follows, blocks, mutes and reports
- Notification preferences
- App settings (theme, timezone)
- Votes, ratings, predictions, tips, quiz answers, coins and badges
- Activity events (follows, shares)
- Invites: who invited you, and who you invited
- Which sign-up steps you complete or skip
Device Identifiers
- Push notification tokens. These let us send notifications to your device.
- A random ID that the app makes for each installation
Device and Diagnostic Data
- Device type and operating system
- App version and browser version
- IP address. Our servers use it to block abuse. Our sign-in service records it when you sign in.
- Error reports: the error, the screen, the app version, and your user ID if you are signed in
- Performance data: how fast screens load and respond
Storage on Your Device
The app keeps some data on your device: your sign-in session, your settings, the random installation ID, and copies of recent screens so that the app opens quickly. We do not use cookies for advertising or tracking.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and maintain our service
- To personalise your experience (favourite teams, notifications)
- To send push notifications you've opted into
- To sync your preferences across devices
- To enable social features (follows, activity feed, messages)
- To confirm stadium check-ins
- To keep the community safe: automated checks of posts, messages and images, and review of reports
- To find and fix errors and slow screens
- To protect accounts and block abuse
4. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored securely using Supabase (hosted on AWS in Australia). Our app servers run in Sydney. We use industry-standard encryption for data in transit (TLS) and at rest. Passwords are hashed using bcrypt and are never stored in plain text.
5. Third-Party Services
These services process data for us:
- Supabase — Authentication, sign-in emails, database and photo storage
- Fly.io — Our app servers
- Vercel — Website hosting
- Cloudflare — Network delivery and protection for our servers
- Expo — Push notification delivery and app updates
- Apple / Google — Push notification delivery to your device, and Sign in with Apple (if used)
- OpenAI — Automated safety checks. We send the text of your posts, messages and profile, and the images that you add to direct messages and game chat.
- KLIPY — GIF search. We send the words that you search for. GIF images load from KLIPY's servers.
Some of these services process data outside Australia, for example in the United States.
We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not use third-party advertising or analytics trackers.
6. Your Rights
Under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and GDPR (where applicable), you have the right to:
- Access your personal data
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your account and data (via Settings > Delete Account)
- Export your data upon request
- Withdraw consent for notifications at any time
- Turn off location, photo or notification access for the app in your device settings at any time
7. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your data will be permanently removed within 30 days. Anonymous, aggregated usage statistics may be retained indefinitely.
Some data stays after you delete your account:
- Your profile picture, cover photo and the photos that you sent in messages and posts are not yet deleted automatically. Email us and we will delete them.
- Groups, polls and tipping pools that you made stay for their other members, without your name.
- Error reports, match-result votes, puzzle scores and hashtags keep a random user ID. That ID does not link to any account after you delete yours.
We keep a record of each notification that we send for 30 days. We delete a push token when your device stops accepting notifications from the app.
8. Children's Privacy
Paradise Footy is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will tell you about significant changes in the app.
